Lana Del Rey-Pop Art

My artistic ability has definitely changed over the course of the summer as well as this semester. Coming back to the class doing independent study, I was able to work outside of the class's teaching outline, which gave me a wider spectrum of creation. I used what I learned from Digital Arts 1 and 2 and applied it to my independent work and it turned fantastically.

In this piece I was focusing on the art of Andy Warhol and how he often took the satire of a celebrity to create Pop art. His work of Marilyn Monroe gave me the idea of picking a female celebrity to create a Pop art piece of. I used the selection tool to select the shaded parts of her face, one thing I learned about doing so is that I can use different shades to fill in the selection to give the shade a more realistic look. I was aiming to achieve making my work actually look like the original picture of Lana, which I believe I succeeded at. The hardest part of this piece was the hair, so I decided to just leave it out, which gave it a more Pop art look.

Self Portrait

For this self-portrait I learned about the work of Android Jones and the creation of his own brushes. The point of the project was to create our own brushes by finding images online, when it comes to technology I learned how to use the photoshop software to create brushes out of images. In this specific piece I was aiming to show an equilibrium between good and bad, that I (self-portrait) found peace in the middle of the two, hence the symbolism. I believe that I succeeded in showing the variation of brushes, but the most difficult part of the piece was being able to focus my face through the brushes.
